From the Ring to the Fight Against Brain Cancer: Pedro Silva to Speak at IronMatt Gala

The Matthew Larson Foundation for Pediatric Brain Tumors (IronMatt) is honored to welcome Pedro Silva, father of the late Jesselyn “JessZilla” Silva, as a featured speaker at the 18th Annual IronMatt Gala on September 18, 2025, at the Ziegfeld Ballroom in New York City.

Jesselyn, a boxing prodigy from New Jersey, began competing at just seven years old. Known for her speed, power, and unshakable confidence, she quickly rose through the amateur ranks, earning the nickname “JessZilla.” Her charisma and determination captured national attention, leading to her feature in the award-winning documentary Jesszilla.

In 2021, Jesselyn was diagnosed with Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma (DIPG)—an aggressive and currently incurable type of pediatric brain tumor affecting the brainstem. Despite her relentless fight, she passed away in 2024. Today, she continues to inspire — not only as a gifted athlete but also as a young woman who embodied resilience, courage, and heart.

Pedro Silva has since become a passionate advocate for advancing research to end pediatric brain tumors. His voice at this year’s Gala underscores our mission: to fund research, reduce family hardship, and give children the opportunity to swim, bike, and run until they’re 70 — not 7.

The IronMatt Gala is our biggest fundraising event of the year. Join us for an evening of dinner, auction, and community as we honor our IronKids, celebrate their strength, and continue to brave the battle against pediatric brain cancer.

📅 Date: September 18, 2025
