On May 15, 2025, the Horace Greeley High School Girls Varsity Lacrosse team held their annual Casey Taub Memorial Game, a heartfelt tribute that honors the memory of their former classmate and teammate, Casey Taub. This event not only commemorates Casey’s enduring spirit but also raises awareness and funds for the Matthew Larson Foundation for Pediatric Brain Tumors, known as IronMatt.
Casey Taub was a vibrant and passionate student-athlete at Horace Greeley High School, known for his love of soccer and his jersey number 22. In 2015, at the age of 14, he was diagnosed with glioblastoma, an aggressive brain tumor. Despite a courageous 17-month battle, Casey passed away in July 2017 at the age of 16. His legacy lives on through the #TaubStrong movement, initiated by his family and friends to support pediatric brain tumor research and assist affected families.
The Greeley Girls Lacrosse team’s dedication to this cause is profound. For the past seven years, they have been the only varsity team, alongside boys’ soccer, to consistently hold a game in Casey’s memory. Their commitment was evident as they not only played with passion but also secured a victory, embodying the resilience and spirit that Casey exemplified.
The event also featured inspiring words from Gianna Limongello, adding depth to the tribute and reinforcing the community’s collective commitment to the cause. Through their efforts, the team raised over $400 for the Matthew Larson Foundation, contributing to the fight against pediatric brain tumors.
The #TaubStrong movement continues to grow, with various initiatives like the annual 22:22 Soccer Jamboree, the CT22 Club at Horace Greeley High School, and the renaming of a local soccer field to Casey Taub Field. These efforts ensure that Casey’s name and spirit remain integral parts of the community, inspiring ongoing support and awareness.
